I've always loved flowers and gardens, and having drawn several 1,000s of houses for real estate companies - this painting epitomizes things that I dearly love. And this one in particular, because I grew up in my grandparent's house, which was same vintage as this one I discovered in North Adelaide, some 20 years ago. Another of my garden/house photos that I put to one side to paint 'some day'. And I guess that day has come.

Flowers and houses are my most popular paintings, and have won a good share of awards for these subjects. I think I remember where this was located, but with the demolition of so many of our older houses, I fear it might have gone. If gone, then it's gone along with many rose gardens such as these with a wonderful abundance of blossoms, with so many residential walls now becoming common, obstructing garden views from the passersby.

The masses of huge pink rose blossoms, almost overwhelming the rose bush were so very beautiful. A picket type fence has ivy type vines peek-a-booing through the slats, while the sunlight almost becomes 'icing' to the already beautiful garden rose blooms. I'm hoping that my interpretation in paint, stirs memories of the wonderful smell of springtime roses.

I've understated the villa, as the roses are the focus of this work, and it is far less detailed that my usual work, as I was wanting to feature the abundance of roses (which is a bit more detailed), but still kept simple. So this is another painting that needs to be viewed as a 'whole', as the whole of it embraces the loveliness of this spring garden delight.

My style of painting here is my own, and takes many hours. I love the depth and versatility of watercolours, allowing for some 'transparent' effects, but also solid, dense colours. While the watercolour paper is white, I wanted a very pure and bright white so have incorporated an opaque watercolour (gouache), to depict the sunlight highlighting the roses and greenery. As the gouache is opaque, it has more 'body' to the paint and so, is slightly raised and textured, adding such perfect highlights. I've also painted this in a less 'realistic' manner - as I didn't want to get hung up on getting 'perfect detailing' (especially for the old house), as I felt it wasn't necessary - wanting to let the whole image speak for itself.

I paint all mediums, but watercolour seems to be my favourite, as well as some of my art award-winners. And have painted 100s of works in them, particularly smaller and miniature paintings, winning some top awards with them.

There is no border allowed for framing, but the painting allows for a small overlap with a mat as per framing by a professional framer - it won't detract from the artwork. Or, for entire image to show, it can be 'float' mounted. Sent flat, not rolled.

All care is taken to represent my artwork, due to monitors, colour, and also size in interior 'in situ' hanging suggestion, can vary. Signed on rear, with COA (Certificate of Authentication) provided.
