Watercolour on paper
Signed on the back.
I felt like creating an 'interesting' painting using my favourite and most noted medium - watercolours. So I chose this rather complex image out of curiousity as to whether I could do it or not.
It's true that perhaps I don't use watercolours in a more traditional way, but the results are far more dramatic than one might expect. I have combined traditional transparent watercolours, but used white gouache to help emphasize the brilliance of the setting sun on the porch.
This is a home that was offered as a BnB or rental in a small historical heritage listed town, so it probably has over 100 years of age to it. I went to this town often, and always this home was a favourite, whether it was to photograph the porch with various seating that would change with the seasons, or the roses, climbing up a trellis on the right hand side. It is a house that no doubt has stories galore,to tell.
But here, the dramatic lighting is what attracted me, as well as the obvious hint of autumn 'in the air'.
Not an easy one to capture - much time was spent on this one. It was SO important to get the colours 'right', especially the light and dark effects. The scene is a peaceful one, that I'm sure many can relate to.
Hopefully my colours translate well to being seen on electronic devices, but please be aware that there may be subtle differences. I'm sure that this will always look far better when 'in hand' than online.
There is a small unpainted border to allow for framing with a mat/mount. I will include a soft white mat with a 10x7.5 inch opening, with the painting.
I am also planning on spraying it with an appropriate watercolour protective coating (clear). Contact me if you have questions re this. Thank you.
All care is taken to represent my artwork, due to monitors, colour, and also size in interior 'in situ' hanging suggestion, can vary.
