Painted for the 2022 5x7 Art Prize with the theme "What Matters". While I was thinking of ideas for this theme I found myself staring at my fridge and realised that it represented the theme in a number of ways - firstly there was the obvious that it hold food which is essential to life, but the outside is often a reflection on our lives. Fridges are a common place where we stick invitations to important events, photos of loved ones and holidays and of course the artwork of our children.
Created using watercolour paint, pigment ink, collage and silver leaf on 300gsm watercolour paper. It was then cut to size and mounted on a 5"x7" canvas panel. The whole work was then sprayed with a protective spray. Work is unframed but due to its' standard size it could easily be inserted in a 5x7 frame with the glass removed.
