On a recent road trip I made many studies of the night sky. This particular evening was a starry night camping by the Quirindi River in Kamiliroi Country. Painted alla prima to capture the atmosphere of the evening.

Atmospheric night sky with stars and moon fill the top third of the square board. Tall pine and palm trees are on each side of the painting with middle ground a dark area of trees and parkland with the bottom right of the board shows a triangular shape of a dark red roof.

Violet night sky with crescent moon and Venus across the top third of the board. In the middle ground are distant house lights seen across a moonlit field . In the foreground a fire pit glows with warmth and reflects a beautiful russet colour onto the outstretched legs of two figures cropped out of the painting.

Dark night sky fills the upper third of the canvas. a central shape of warm lights with and the foreground merges with more interesting shadowy shapes.

Sunny yellow green grass at the top left of the painting leading down through the middle of the painting dividing a terracotta pot plant of geranium flowers on the left side sitting atop a brick wall in part sunshine part shade. To the right of the painting is part of a Fiddle Leaf Fig plant in sunshine and a sunlit pot.
