Professor Jenny Hocking is an award winning biographer whose latest work is a two volume biography of former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. On May 29,2020, she and her legal team won the High Court case for the release of the secret ‘Palace letters’ between the Queen and the Governor-General, Sir John Kerr, at the time of the 1975 Whitlam dismissal. In this portrait, which featured in the 2019 Hidden Faces Exhibition at Pan Pacific Hotel, Melbourne, I've included Old Parliament House Canberra in the background. The former Labor slogan 'It's Time' on the badge she is wearing can also be viewed as relevant to Jenny's campaign. The title refers to Gough Whitlam's description of Jenny as the 'Queen of Biographers'.
Portraiture is one of my favourite genres and I enjoy contrasting larger flat areas of paint with finer details of the subject's hair.
This painting is on quality Italian linen and framed with plain timber.
