Luisa di Foligno by Marijke Lambregtse
This small artwork was one of a series made in Italy during our six months stay in 2022 while we were in Umbria for a while.
It was extremely hot during this summer's heatwave and everything was dry but beautiful as well. Because we had no aircon I would paint in the evening when the light was very nice and we could open the windows to let a cool breeze come in. Consequently the heat really has been reflected in this little work. It was inspired by the many madonnas I saw, especially in this beautiful church, more like a temple in Foligno. I named her Luisa an Italian name for warrior, also the name of famous feminists, heroins, poets and writers.
I love the colors I created with a simple palette as we were traveling. The discovering of some beautiful master paints in the local art shops were a treat.
Mounted on a deep edged artist panel it can either be hung or stand up on a shelf. Block frame is an other option too.
