Watercolour on paper
Signed on the front.
My neighbour's large Jacaranda tree overhangs my backyard, and during the dry summer we've had in Brisbane, it has welcomed many birds and creatures into its shade. This pair of Little Corellas spent an entire afternoon sheltered in the shade of the tree, giving me the opportunity to observe, sketch and photograph them. One of those photographs was the reference for this painting.
This watercolour painting celebrates the joy I felt watching this pair of birds, with quick, expressive brushstrokes and perhaps exaggerated colours - pale yellows, pinks and blues.
I know they are mostly white birds in nature, but I took the creative liberty of accentuating their subtle colouring to bring them to life on paper. Now they have warmth and personality. With delicate pen and ink outlines, they stand out against a muted background of Australian Leaf Green.
This artwork comes with a sage-green matt but is UNFRAMED - Bluethumb can arrange framing for you, or I have a trusted local framer and I'd be delighted to discuss framing options.
PLEASE NOTE: the first image shows the artwork without a border, however the branch in the artwork does extend out to the sides another centimetre or so - shown in the last image. You can choose how you'd like to frame this - showing the extended branches, or not. The actual size of the paper is A3.
