Watercolour on paper

This diptych featuring a Laughing Kookaburra and Magpie consists of two separate sheets of very thick cotton watercolour paper each measuring 56cm wide by 76cm tall. I have mocked up the work framed as one piece, and also framed separately as two sheets.

My work is very much connected to the place I live and features the backyard birds and plants common in my inner city neighbourhood. Our nature is found amongst the street art, peeping through factory buildings and growing defiantly and disorderly out of the concrete.
My works on paper draw their inspiration from traditional Japanese woodblock printing (Ukiyo - e) and Sumi - e techniques. I enjoy working with Chinese calligraphy brushes, predominantly using expressive line to create my images.
