How gorgeous and flamboyant are these Cockatoos? With its soft-textured white and salmon-pink plumage and large, bright red and yellow crest, the Major Mitchell is often described as the most beautiful of all cockatoos, and I have to agree. I’ve painted this guy nice and large with a few simple botanicals including an umbrella plant and palms in subtle blue/grey hues to compliment the beautiful blush pink of our vibrant crested hero.
I’m a colour junkie and I love working in limited and interesting colour combinations. For this gouache painting I have mixed the paint into a more opaque consistency, and used acrylic too in parts to give a flat screen print feel to the piece. Colour, shape and line are the heroes, and the white line work gives my work it’s unique Australian flavour. I use premium quality light fast gouache paints and professional watercolour paper. I recommend professional framing using archival matt board and glass to protect your investment for many years to come.
