This original painting on textured watercolour paper features a New Holland Honey Eater and Proteas in hues of indigo and Yellow.
I like to paint with Chinese calligraphy brushes and use a limited colour palette, to allow the paint colours to bleed into one another on the page. Some areas are quite opaque and flat, and others are a watery wash.
I’ve been painting Australian birds lately and I’m getting together quite a collection now. Make sure you follow me so you can see all the different birdies I’m planning on uploading in the coming weeks and months.
My current paintings are inspired by old animal and plant engravings, and the crazy mix of tropical plant species growing wild in my neighbours’ front gardens. I live in the inner city of Sydney and my surroundings are a mix of victorian terrace houses and lots of amazing bird and plant life. My style is two dimensional and print like, which has much to do with my textile and graphic design background.
