For this painting I have been continuing my exploration of layering techniques with watercolour and gouache paint, working with Chinese calligraphy brushes using various paint consistencies from a watery wash to precise opaque line work.
This Cheeky Sulphur Crested Cockatoo is perched on a Peppercorn tree over some choppy water. Folklore says that cockatoos signify change or rain coming. The moody sky in this work suggests rain is indeed on it's way.
My style is heavily influenced by Japanese woodblock prints and you can really get a sense of Japonisme coming through in this work. My subject, as always is unmistakably Australian and this painting would made an excellent statement piece on the wall of your Australian home or business.
