I think elsewhere is a beautiful word. It feels other worldly and evokes a rare sense of nostalgia for me, I like journeying "elsewhere" both physically and mentally.
I used to live in Newcastle and sometimes miss the beaches up that way, this painting is a depiction of one of my favourite places, Catherine Hill Bay. There is an abandoned Jetty there that's now closed to the public because its slowly crumbling...so naturally people climb the fence and walk out to its furthest point to jump off the side for a thrill or to feel closer to the ocean. I have fond memories of this place, I don't know if what i've painted is entirely accurate but I don't care, its the feeling of being in that place I wanted to try and recapture for myself. Hopefully that resonates with others and they get the feeling of being elsewhere too.
