I love hip hop, i love rap, and for the most part i love where its going. For me Kendrick Lamar is a modern voice who has documented the changing world but also the changing nature of hip hop and what its about. His lyricism and story telling ability is something that i think we need more of in this day and age, particularly in America. Documenting the individual human condition and contemporary concerns whether they be political or social he has become a voice for many on these fronts. His changing style but consistent depth of lyrical content is something that i have so quickly become enthralled in. Thats why when i was asked to create this commission i did so without any hesitation. I admire him greatly and it was a pleasure to paint this.
