The White Cliffs of Dover are evocative sentinels, keeping watch over my memories. This work is a departure from my usual style, echoing our family's emigration from England's shores - it is inspired by hazy memories.
I have experimented with oil sticks, over lightly textured palette knife and brush work and applied a light Cadmium Yellow glaze with a glossy medium, then rubbed it back. This technique has resulted in a warm glow coming off the cliffs - they will change through the day depending on the light in your room, alternately glowing warm white and soft yellow. My intention is to impart the feeling of a memory that alternates - sometimes distant sometimes at the top of my mind!
