I've done probably hundreds of artworks on vintage maps, but this one is definitely one of my favorites. It's a different approach for me to let the skin tones be reflecting the contours of the map beneath, and at the same time not let realism drive the rest of the painting. As the water in the map is of one colour, so I have allowed the body of the piece reflect that as well. I have no particular reason for her emotions, I'll let you decide. More in this map series coming, same size canvases. Applied to Winsor and Newton thin edge canvas and sprayed lightly with varnish for protection. Map edges turned around on edges where possible.
