Using 1970s postally used stamps was an interesting challenge. I had measured so that her irises fit the blue sapphire in the stamp but I also wanted to use the stamps themselves to support the edges of the sitter. Looking just at her face, you don't dwell on the periphery of her hairline, but if you go around the edges there's a bit more to the story, including two references to the flap of an envelope. The words added in gold foil are what she does not say.
