A Pacific Black Duck glides gracefully on the waters of Lake Cootharaba.

A dabbling duck is one that feeds from the surface of the water or just under. At first glance you may think this is a bland looking duck. Keep looking, because when they spread their wings, you'll see a beautiful iridescent blue/green shimmering in the sun. And don't you just love their facial markings? I think they're cute...I guess that's why I painted this little fella. It was early morning at Lake Cootharaba and he was wading solo in the clear shallows. Lake Cootharaba is a large lake a part of the Noosa River, Queensland, on the way to the Everglades.
