When we travel home down the coast, we usually camp for a night on a farm at Tostaree. The barn is available for guests to use- set up a bit like an old tavern, with rustic tables, a big fireplace, and a friendly atmosphere. The walls are covered with memorabilia, pictures and stories about local and family history. Among these, I saw a photo of our host, his son and another farmer droving sheep in the 1980s. I asked for permission to use the photo as reference for a painting ... and here it is.
The bush setting, the muted colours in the old photo and the story it told reminded me of paintings by some of my favourite Australian Impressionist artists.
