"Ubuhle," meaning 'beauty' in Zulu, resonates deeply with my South African heritage. My father, fluent in Zulu, shared a few phrases, but I wish I'd learned more to connect with my roots. Spending months in Spain, the view of the Atlas Mountains stirs a gentle pull at my heart, linking me to my fathers homeland - Africa-a place I love to visit.
As I painted her, her face emerged with a touch of sadness or perhaps a wistful expression, inviting interpretation. I loved every moment of painting her. Adding a touch of delicate gold foil for her earrings creates a subtle glimmer, enhancing the beauty of her character. “Ubuhle" isn't just a painting; it's a piece of my story.
