This female Hardhead Duck was seen at Shortland Wetland Centre, Newcastle, NSW - well worth a visit and only a couple of minutes off the Newcastle-North Coast highway. A member of the worldwide Pochard family this duck feeds entirely afloat and seldom, if ever, comes ashore. One of its alternative names is Coppertop which I prefer.
This painting is a portrait of water as much as the duck. The duck is easier to paint.
