The Prize

The Bluethumb Art Prize ceremony will take place at our flagship gallery located in Richmond Melbourne, on Thursday 26 October 2023.

The artwork with the highest overall score from our judging panel will win the top cash prize of A$50,000. This will be the Bluethumb Art Prize 2023, Overall Winner.

The Overall Winner will be invited to exhibit at the Bluethumb Art Prize 2023 Winners’ Exhibition to be held at Bluethumb’s flagship gallery in Richmond, Melbourne.
All category winners will receive cash prizes and will be invited to exhibit at the Bluethumb Art Prize 2023 Winners’ Exhibition.

The category awards and respective cash prizes are as follows:

1. Founders' Award category A$5000

2. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award A$5000

3. Abstract Award A$5000

4. Landscape & Wildlife Award A$5000

5. Still Life Award A$5000

6. Portrait Award A$5000

7. Photography Award A$5000

In addition to the Overall Winner and Category Award winners, there are two Special Awards as follows:

The Founders’ Award:

After its successful launch in 2021, The Founders’ Award will return again in 2023. This award is judged by Bluethumb co-founders and brothers Edward and George Hartley, and is for large statement pieces (at least 1.5m on one side) as this is the most popular and in-demand artwork on Bluethumb.

The winner of the Founders’ Award will receive a A$5,000 cash prize.

The People’s Choice Award:

The People’s Choice Award is voted for online by the public from the pool of finalists when announced on Thursday, 28th September 2023. The artwork with the most votes will receive a A$15,000 cash prize, to be announced on Thursday, 9 November 2023.

In addition, the public can vote for their 10 (ten) favourite finalists to be in the running to win a ‘favourited’ artwork valued up to A$2,000. The winner will be picked at random and informed accordingly.

2023 Judges

We’re excited to welcome a talented mix of Design Industry professionals and celebrated artists to judge this year’s Bluethumb Art Prize. With a diverse panel of artistic experience, knowledge and taste, this year’s art prize will be like no other! As always, the Bluethumb Selection Panel will shortlist entries and hand over the final decision to our esteemed judges.
