Kaloumez is an abstract concept which hints at a colourful graffiti style. With some graffiti, over time one artists overwrites a previous artist’s work and the result is layer upon layer of thoughts concepts, some showing through in the under painting. I love those examples and always look for the number of layers to see how the current version has evolved. It was with that decay, and renewal concept in mind that I created Kaloumez.
I've drawn my influences from various artists such as Pollock, Basquiat, and the numerous and various (graffiti) artists who add colour to buildings in urban areas around our cities.
Kaloumez is certainly a statement piece. Sure to grab attention in your home of office. The layers and colour pallet combine to add complexity and interest to the canvas. It is easy to look at and inspect the detail for a long time.
The painting features many layers of paints, and textures. The colours and shapes interact with each other so that no one colour dominates or overpowers the rest.
Paintings like this one both excite and scare me as an artist. It is exciting working with the various paints, layering them, allowing some of the wet paints to blend, and mix. The unnerving part is in attempting to control that interaction between the paints, don’t add too much, don’t over work an area, and don’t cover an area that has an interesting feature. Mistakes are easily made and very hard to correct.
Kaloumez has been painted on a quality 12oz Eraldo canvas, and features artist grade acrylics, inks, texture medium, and spray paints. It has been signed, has painted edges and is ready to hang.
