This is one of the few old snow gums which survived the devastating fires in the Victorian High Country several years ago. It is located along one of my favourite walks on the Bogong High Plains. On this particular day I sat under the tree for three hours waiting for the light from the setting sun to be just right so I could photograph it to best advantage. As you can see, it made a good subject for a painting.

"Survivor" was selected as a finalist in the last Country Energy $35,000 Art Prize and was part of an exhibition which visited a number of important galleries around NSW.
