You will find a lot of colour in my pieces featuring hair and skin as I really love experimenting with tone. This piece is a prime example of such. Eyes often always are the soul focus of my portraiture pieces. I truly enjoy bringing soul a piece through the eyes or, as in this case, a lack of soul as the subject is posing. I wanted to give off the notion that she is staring at a camera because she's been told to and to show a little hurt and complacency as she poses for something for someone she doesnt agree with.
I have used gold in this piece to symbolize that the subject was modelling and doing so for this particular shoot for money but this time her heart just wasnt in it...if you sense a look of resentment in her eye, that was my intention.
This is an imaginative piece that I created the storyline for. I was looking at pictures of beautiful models online looking for inspiration when my mind began to wander. What if the model was having an argument with the photographer right before the photos were taken? Surely that would show a little. What if it was a shoot for a company that hadnt been kind to her in the past but her agent insisted she take the job? What if it were simply to pay the bills and the person coordinating the shoot was shouting horrible, sexist/objectifying remarks at the model?
Everyone has a rough day at work but models have their bodies critiqued. You can hang your hat up at the end of the day, you can put your briefcase by the door, you can kick off your boots and put down your toolbox...but you cant leave your body on the hatstand. So imagine being even more conditioned to critique yourself. Imagine the jerks you would have to deal with telling you whether you were pretty enough to work.
I wanted to embody the things we dont think of in a seemingly glamourous occupation.
