‘True Colours’ depicts the courage to be vulnerable and reveal our inner selves to others and even ourselves. An artist can hide behind their work with their only exposure being a signature at the bottom of a painting. For an actor or singer (such as the subject, Miriam Pultro) there is no anonymity, the performer and their performance are integrally tied, there is nowhere to hide. Every time they step onto a stage they expose themselves to criticism or praise. The first thing we look for in others and the last thing we want them to see in ourselves is vulnerability. This image strips back the outside layers exposing the true self underneath. By removing our emotional armour we might just expose something that is raw, real, memorable and worthy.
This painting has a charcoal stained Tasmanian oak shadow frame with the framed dimensions of 64cm (w) x 95cm (h) x 5.5cm (d).
