ARTIST STATEMENT: My work explores people, the way we are and our relationships to the environments we inhabit throughout time. My people are schematic, of no particular race or creed, shown in profile or silhouette, blending with their surrounds and each other, their existence is dependent on these forces. They merge and separate in support and shared experience without discrimination or bias. They confer, wait, and search to understand themselves, each other and their world. My environments are unknown composites, actual and imagined where humans gather and wonder. Nothing is real, perspectives are altered and different in time and place; an echo of life. I use a variety of artists mediums combined with collage; as a drawing and painting tool, to create texture, a subtext, layers and highlighting modern day issues of impermanence and consumerism. My works contain overt and covert text where sentences start but are never finished. When reading a novel the reader creates the imagery, my works are the imagery for the viewer’s story. BLUETHUMB: Many of my works on bluethumb are older developmental works, examples from series or exhibitions, while some are released due to storage constraints. Following my last solo exhibition the gallery director cautioned “don’t sell all your work” I do however keep many pieces pivotal to my development or significant series.
