One of my favourite things to paint are mandarin oranges, and these beauties came from my own backyard. The orange contrasts beautifully with the big lush green leaves. Nestled on a Fry's Homeopathic cocoa box, this is a celebration of a bountiful harvest we got to share with our community. There is a steiff bunny in this, I love the beauty of these antique toys. On the right, is a small silver pin, a reproduction of a medieval pin, which is of a cat with a mouse in its mouth, it reads "vi sis mis" - I have the mouse.
It is very much inspired by Dutch and German still life painting. It was painted Alla Prima (wet in wet) and from life. You can see it has lots of painterly texture to it. It is a really fun way to paint.
This painting would look fantastic hung salon style with other paintings, or would be just as happy and lovely in a cosy nook. It is detailed and a wonderful piece for those who appreciate fine, small-scale art work.
