This is an original, matted and framed Pastel Wildlife Portrait, "Ambrose the Platypus". Ambrose was awarded 2nd Prize in Pastels at the Queanbeyan Art Society's "Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council" Exhibition in 2016. Platypuses are native to Eastern Australia and listed as "Near Threatened" as they are vulnerable to the increased pollution of the waterways in which they live. They are notoriously shy, and I was very lucky to see one in the wild when I was young. They are truly fascinating and complex creatures. For example, Platypuses are one of the few mammals to be venomous, with males having poisonous (non-lethal) spurs on their hind feet.
