This is a semi-abstract depiction of Ellery Creek Big Hole in the West McDonnell Ranges, near Alice Springs in Central Australia.

I wanted to capture the feeling of cool relief that would have been felt when coming across that lush body of water in the middle of a rocky desert chasm.

I really enjoyed playing with the angular shapes of the rock faces, as well as experimenting with the unctuous texture of the dimensional paint applied with palette knives.

This piece is already framed with a simple blondewood floating frame that contrasts nicely with the rich orange and turquoise blues.
