I return - once again - to my calming place: temperate rainforests.

This scene is the iconic tree fern at the midpoint of the Cascades walk at Tidbinbilla nature reserve (the Lyrebird trail) in the Australian Capital Territory.

This is a second attempt of this scene after a previous pastel picture that I just couldn't love - and I used a reference photo of the same scene, but taken two years later on a different hike.

I'm much happier with this version. I'm particularly happy with how the foreground pops, and the texture of the moss and the boulder on the right. I wanted these to be the focus rather than the delicate water cascade, with the latter being noticed as almost an afterthought.

The painting is framed in a lovely blondewood floating frame to emphasize the natural colours without detracting from the scene.
