This scene depicts a vibrant sunset over the stunning Ikara-Flinders Ranges, in my original home state of South Australia.

Although the majority of my work tends towards cool greens and blues, I really enjoyed playing with the rich warm palette here. I wanted to create that feeling of a moment after golden hour, when the sun has just dipped below the horizon and the rich pink afterglow saturates the sky for a few precious minutes.

The background colours are so eye-catching that it takes a second or two to notice the finer details in the rocks and Xanthorrhoea plants in the foreground. Just like in nature, I wanted the grand expanse and colour to capture you before the smaller pleasures kick in...

The edges of the painting have been blacked in and it can hung without a frame, and it would also look lovely with a simple black or wooden floating frame.
